My Writing Process

I documented my writing and creative process for “cross-training” at work. The tools I use in the video to write and design are Scrivener, Byword, and Photoshop.

Like when I write, Radiohead (Like Spinning Plates) plays in the background. I recorded and edited everything using ScreenFlow.

CSS Snippets for Web Designers

CSS3 is a powerful style sheet to create anything web beautiful. It’s my favorite language to code in because it fills me with joy upon seeing the results.

I thought I’d share a few snippets of code and links with fun, helpful information for you CSS3 nerds out there too. So here goes:

Programming from a newbie’s perspective

Programming is definitely not for everyone. Those that hate or failed math need not apply.  Having tried to learn a few different spoken languages, I can say that learning a new coding language is similar but not as hard as learning something like Mandarin Chinese. It’s more like learning a language with a vocabulary of, say, 200-400 words instead of 100,000-400,000. Coding is like the inverse of solving an algebra equation, meaning instead of simplifying the equation you’re making it bigger and bigger while making sure it is still all true and equal.

Becoming a story teller

Everyone loves a good story. Everyone.

If something has no story, most people disregard it as a waste of time.

Here are a few thoughts:

  • In everything creative that you do, it must tell a story, or people will be disinterested.
  • If the story that you are painting with your creative ability isn’t moving you to action, what makes you think it will move someone else?
  • All inspiration can be attained from any story and what it is saying. You must find or create the right story.
  • Allow diligence to lead you to find out what that story is and practice your way of communicating it with your creativity ability.

Find the theme of the story… then write… create… design… whatever.

People love good stories. People love good songs.

People will respond to a good design.
